Indecent
Nashville Repertory Theatre, 2024
Paula Vogel's play documents the story of Sholem Asch's The God of Vengeance from its inception through successful performances in Europe to the Yiddish theatre of New York. When the play transferred to Broadway, however, the cast was put on trial for obscenity due to the love story of two of the female characters in the play. Following the journeys of Asch and the stage manager Lemml, Indecent moves from location to location across decades. Lighting served a crucial vehicle for guiding the audience through these transitions.

"Phillip Franck’s lighting design is both atmospheric and theatrical, creating a dual world of history and make-believe..."  - Broadway World Nashville,"Paula Vogel's INDECENT Is Nashville Repertory Theatre's Best Production of The Last 10 Years." February 5, 2024.
